Andrea Nicoloso graduated at the ISIA in Faenza, in his final thesis project presents a collection of garments and accessories that arise from the recycling of different materials. Through his small collection, his thesis takes shape by underlining how old garments or unused materials can take other forms and be reused.
Andrea Nicoloso worked also on Nouveau Noir born during the Erasmus period in Nancy in France. His research begins from a historical iconographic research on the origins of the petite robe noire and then building a parallelism with the male wardrobe, so it born a collection of NN branded shirts. Black color, a mix of shapes and materials with an oriental taste such as crepe, satin georgette and organzine are the protagonists of the six bright and dynamic garments proposed: two for summer, two for winter and two for evening.
His research is divided into iconographic and historical. The first served to stimulate thoughts through images, the second to create a story. Andrea Nicoloso's historical research begins with Chanel's little black dress born in 1926, as a garment to liberate women from the constraints of bustiers, petticoats and crinolines. The shirt is the second garment that he puts in the spotlight, underlining that this garment has ancient origins and, even if with purposes different from those of today, it was already present in the eighth century. The last studied items is the caftan, this "tunic" used above all in Arab countries was able to spread throughout the world thanks to trade but soon gave way to modern clothes. The materials that Andrea Nicoloso used to compose his collection are: Oxford, flannel, Shantungo linen, pique, Batista combined with crepe, georgette, satin and organizine.
