VADERETRO

A little anachronistic*, a little old-fashioned, Vaderetro is both anti-modern and thoroughly retro-garde*. It is not just a brand; it is an art de vivre. We spread arts, cultures, and subcultures through our unique and diverse genderless* clothing style. This is not fashion*. We refuse a temporary ideal, ephemeral fashion, choosing a pro-authenticity – anti-“product” ethos instead. Vaderetro transcends any socially constructed barriers to transmit an effortless vision of apparels. As a time machine, Vaderetro selects, rediscovers and rethinks what once were wardrobes essentials. Reinventing the past to create the new, we tell the story of a Paradise Lost named after the fond memories of days long gone. We nurture ourselves from one precise emotion: nostalgia*. Every season, Vaderetro is reborn from its own ashes into another zeitgeist*. After all, Vaderetro is a kind of rebellion: a touch impertinent, a touch eccentric. We celebrate individuality and self-creation resisting a world of uniformity that comes with picking mass- produced garments off a rack. Vaderetro is the power of choosing to be you, accepting your uniqueness and acknowledging that you don’t need to be the whole to be part of the whole.
As a brand, the ethos of Vaderetro is to take stand against many of the appalling practices of the fashion industry. We speak out on issues we find important and try to help give voice to the people. We do this humbly but with a firm belief that a responsible brand is a healthy one. Vaderetro’s steps to minimise the industry’s carbon footprint and to implement ethical practices is divided in three categories:
Their products
They design high quality products made for long-term usage with carefully considered materials and techniques. More than half of their collection is made out unique recycled and dead stock fabrics.
Their suppliers
Vaderetro values artisans over factories. As a result, many of our pieces including the blazers, knitwear but also T-shirts and hoodies are either hand-made or hand-finished. As a brand Made in Italy, they are committed to highlight local resources, traditions and craftsmanship. That is the reason why they apply the traditional Neapolitan tailoring to their statement suits. Vaderetro also cooperates with transparent and responsible sourcing partners to promote fair working conditions in our supply chain and to make sure that human dignity take precedence over the bottom line.
Their operations
Vaderetro considers the ethical and environmental impact of our operational activities very carefully. The starting point of their sustainability ambition is that we value quality over quantity. They produce less, but with an emphasis on a use of quality natural materials and fabrics (cotton, silk, linen). Last but not least, they exclude theirselves from fast-fashion that they believe to have a detrimental effect on the environment. As a consequence, they produce at slow pace, side-stepping the regular fashion calendar.
Chapter I : Playground
Throughout its vivid color palette reminiscing of the Golden Age of arcades, Vaderetro, in this first chapter, takes a journey back in the late ‘80s, early ‘90s. The Playground capsule rethinks style through the prism of the subcultural movements amongst the youth of that epoch. From choosing which VHS to watch, to listening to rock music out loud, bedrooms filled up with posters, the collection translates this universe of effortlessness and nonchalance through its apparels. Vaderetro stops the clock in Spring Summer 1989 on the verge of a technological outbreak, exploring the frenzy of kids early breakfasts playing with magnets on the fridge while putting on school uniforms. Inspiration is drawn from the essence of the
‘80s / ‘90s reality simultaneously grasping elements from everyday life and alluding to what later became statements.

“Genius is no more than childhood recaptured at will, childhood equipped now with man's physical means to express itself, and with the analytical mind that enables it to bring order into the sum of experience, involuntarily amassed.”
